Vasey Aviation Group LLC (VA) performed as owner’s representative on the largest airport facility project undertaken in Southwest Airline’s thirty-two year history.  The new concourse at Islip provides eight gates for the airline as well as upgraded security checkpoints and a new outbound baggage system.  

The project was constructed in the mist of the ongoing operation in phases to maintain Southwest’s quality of service.

VA was responsible for managing the planning, environmental assessment, cost control, design and construction for $82 million in terminal area improvements, including the new eight gates, a new outbound baggage operation, airfield drainage, new apron for twelve aircraft parking positions and over 2500 parking spaces.

The first four gates of the new concourse were completed in 2004 and the additional four gates and outbound baggage operation were completed in 2006.

The 170,000 square-foot expansion includes enhanced passenger amenities including national and local restaurant operators and accommodates eight of the airlines’ latest model of Boeing 737-700 aircraft with winglets, providing longer stage lengths from the NY market.
